Woman Stabbed in Birmingham City Bus Shelter Assault Succumbs to Injuries

A woman who was stabbed to her neck area during a random assault at a bus stop within Birmingham has passed away, police have confirmed.

The victim, aged 34 years, came under attack on Smallbrook Queensway street, just outside the Bullring shopping centre, just prior to 9 PM GMT on Friday, West Midlands Police said.

Djeison Rafael, twenty-one, was presented at Birmingham court on Monday, facing charges for the violent incident.

Originally charged of attempted murder however after the victim's passing the charge has been updated to include murder.

Law Enforcement Actions

The force said police personnel will remain around the city centre through Monday to offer reassurance, and investigators were supporting the victim's relatives.

Detectives are appealing any eyewitnesses who might have observed Mr Rafael, who is described as British citizen of Black ethnicity, reportedly dressed in an all-grey tracksuit, dark headwear, trainers and rucksack.

Attack Site Details

The stabbing happened near Bullring retail complex, across from the main entrance to Birmingham New Street station.

Law enforcement confirmed they were treating it as "unprovoked attack" with investigators stating efforts continue to determine why it happened.

Witness Accounts

Shalini Doal, employed in the vicinity, recounted paramedic and police activity when she finished her work period around 10 PM on Friday.

She described the scene as extremely disorderly, and said some of her colleagues heard loud disturbances at about 21:00.

"Many my colleagues take public transport, take the tram... our security is compromised essentially, in the downtown area."

Another individual, 25, resident of Stoke, said he came to Birmingham fairly regularly visiting his partner resident there, and was concerned about what had happened.

"It makes me worried about my partner," he said.

"She doesn't drive employed at all of the big music venues... considering something completely unprovoked occurred, understandably, it's terrible."
